1. Tourism. Fuel Building Materials Food 2. Tourism: Even though you state that it is not entirely correct to talk about stocks and flows referring to people I would say that this is extremely important to consider in the Canary Islands. They enter, leave and stay and transform and construct our urban landscape more than anything else. Fuel: Entering the city is pretty much everything but most importantly Fuel to produce electricity. Building Materials: Nearly all building materials. Even sand is imported from abroad. Food: Another urban changing factor is of course food and most of it is shipped in from all over the world. There is limited agriculture mainly for own consumption and almost only tomatoes and bananas are exported in large quantities. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a large port so much of the stocks and flows become transitory elements. One of these examples is that we stock Unicef´s materials and food for possible emergencies in west Africa. 3. There is a great amount of political effort focused on making the islands sustainable. Such is the case of the Hierro and it's water reservoires used to stock energy. Banana plantations are also picking up, thus improving not only the economy, but also the landscapes. These plantations form the characteristic topography of the islands and it’s great to see them back in use. Lastly construction materials are sometimes very dependant on the manufacturing capabilities of an area. Since the end of the crisis this has slowly been picking up. One could therefore expect that even the construction industry might become more sustainable, since it won't require so much transport.
