Modul 3: How would you measure livability? 1. How would you define livability? Livability is determined by everything that surrounds us in the city. It's how we feel in the city, do we feel happy or want to move to another place. For the livability, country and its geographical location is also important, as it settles living standards and feeling of safety. 2. If you need to define livability with the following terms, how would you rank them? (1: most important - 7: least important) Terms Ranking: Housing (affordability and access) 1. Health Neighbourhood (access to life, work and play) 2. Neighbourhood Transportation (safe and convenient options) 3. Environment Environment (clean air and water) 4. Opportunity Health (prevention, access and quality) 5. Transportation Engagement (civic and social involvement) 6. Housing Opportunity (inclusion and possibilities) 7. Engagement 3. Choose three cities in the United States (preferable cities in different states) and go to the following webpage: https://livabilityindex.aarp.org . Search for the chosen cities at the livability index. San Francisco, New York and Seattle. 5. How much has the livability score of every city changed? Please note the scores of this question in a table like the one below. CITY LIVABILITY SCORE CUSTOMIZED LIVABILITY SCORE CHANGE (+/-) San Francisco 66 69 +3 New York 71 69 -2 Seattle 63 66 +3 6. Can you explain the change in livability scores of your cities? Do this on basis of the terms in your ranking. The most important thing in my rank is health and neighbourhood, but the environment is almost the same important. As being healthy and safe are in my opinion two greatest determinants in people's life. Scores of San Francisco and Seattle went up, as the health care and neighbourhood are good. Downscoring to the livability score was transportation which is well developed in this cities but isn't very important for me. The difference between SF and Seattle was in poor housing and opportunities in SF when Seattle is quite average in the rest of terms. New York noticed a drop in scoring, despite it is very good in most all categories. The environment and opportunity that are at the top part of my the ranking are poor in New York, especially opportunity term.
