Website http://www.globalcarbonatlas.org/en/CO2-emissions provides info that Ukraine is now on the 27th place by emissions (MtCO₂). According to http://cdiac.ornl.gov/trends/emis/tre_ukr.html Since becoming an independent republic, the Ukraine's fossil-fuel and cement-related CO2 emissions have plummeted 50% and population has declined from over 50 million people. Per capita emissions have dropped from 3.39 metric tons of carbon in 1992, fifth highest among Eastern European nations, to 1.92 metric tons of carbon in 2008. So the dynamics are not bad in decreasing CO2 emissions . As we see on diagram there is main consumption go natural gas 21 Mtoe, oil products and coal - 10 and 9. 11 go 20 Mtoe of natural gas goes for residential needs, most of oil products to transportation and most of coal - for industry. After I checked also some websites with information about CO2 emissions I`ve realised that despite gas are consumed in two times more amounts then coal - emissions from them are mostly equal. So what about policies. What is obviously can be made: - residential consumption of natural gas for cooking must be dislodge with electricity. For heating there are some steps : on one side energy efficiency oh houses must be increased with more building heat insulation, with storing extra heat in summer for winter and vice versa and with including in heating systems heat pumps. - oil consumption for transport needs will be naturally reduced with mass spread of electro vehicles and government should facilitate it with - coal consumption for industry should be reduced with gradually substitution coal energy with renewables, I guess- but for this moment I`m actually not familiar with coal industry For the picture I1ve made screenshot of two infographics - Worlds CO2 emissions and Worlds energy production balance.
