The urban system of San Francisco relies heavily on all aspects of electricity to sustain its population. Without electricity the city would not be able to function effectively and many of the positive attributes of the city would be lost in addition to having a scarcity of resources. This urban system is optimum to be powered by photovoltaic power, hydro electric power and wind power, however much of this energy would have to be imported externally from the hinterland as there is not much available space in the city and the conditions do not favor some of these alternative energy production options.
