FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

The visible information in this picture is: There is a building that is painted in red which is different from the rest of the buildings in height, colour, materiality. It is surrounded by at least 2 streets. The building is closed by several wooden green doors. The invisible information one can extract from this picture is: A> The building can be dated to the beginning of the last century. The size and openings of the building give a clue that the building was originally used a storage space or workshops for the nearby port (like the ones that can be seen at the back of the street). It seems to be a remnant from an area that has become residential from the 80’s onwards. B> From the type of locks on the doors, they appear not to have been opened for quite some time. There are no entrance markings such as yellow pavement marks or “do not park” signs which and therefore it can be inferred that these have not been opened recently. A> The size of the building and its rhythmic and most probable past use can give an idea about how the building is constructed as a large shed. It serves as historic marker about the neighborhood and the construction methods used a century ago in this area of Spain at the beginning of the century. B> Since the building seems to have been shut for some time this space can be considered an urban void. It is a space within the city that could be reclaimed and utilized to improve the planning of this area. Introducing equipment or whatever is lacking in the neighborhood.
