The main fossil fuels used in Mexico are oil, liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas, and coal. The main uses they have are transportation and industry, followed by residential and commercial uses. In order to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels requires a structural change in energy generation and consumption patterns. The geographic conditions of Mexico, and specifically of Oaxaca, allow the generation of renewable energies such as solar and wind power to be promoted. The replacement of vehicles using fossil fuels by electric cars, which emit less pollutants, should also be encouraged. It is necessary to modify the mobility patterns, in order to encourage the use of bicycles in cities and increase pedestrian crossings. It is also necessary for the government to force industries to use clean technologies. An important phenomenon, which is not taken into account, is the use of coal, wood, garbage used in certain areas, either for domestic use, traditionally cooked with firewood, or for the production of bricks and partitions to open air, these practices are very common in Oaxaca, which generates a large amount of contaminating particles suspended in the air. Therefore, to improve the conditions of generation and consumption of energy, local and national elements must be taken into account. As citizens, we must become aware of the energy resources we use every day, because not only does energy be required to be transported or to operate electrical equipment, but everything that is produced, transformed and moved requires energy, which not only has a monetary cost, but also ecological.
