-Cities: 1. Karlsruhe, Germany 2. Berlin, Germany 3. Rome, Italy 4. Bogotá, Colombia 5. Medellín, Colombia -Characteristics: *Stability (crime rates) *Air quality *Efficient transportation systems *Walkability *Efficient public services -For the first characteristic it is important to say that the situation in latin America was always a very complex item to manage. There were always high crime rates. I think in the next years we're not going to see any big advance, because it implicates important political and social decisions that can generate any change. -For the air quality, the situation in Bogotá isn't very well, but I don't think it is a critical problem. In the last years, new electric buses were bought to take part of the public transportation system. We hope this can make any difference, but there are other contaminant agents who are involved in the problem. -Traffic management was always one of the most important issues for each mayor who takes possession of government. Actually, Bogotá is the most known case of BRT success in managing the public transportation system. BRT system (Transmilenio) is a very fast transportation mode (in some cases like a metro system), but it have great problems related to comfort. In the next years we hope the first metro line will be built and new BRT lines too, so we expect some improvements in efficiency in the transportation system. -Bogotá is the most walkable city in Colombia. Wide pedestrian platforms make it very easy to walk. It should be expected, that in the next years it would be improved. -Some public services like electricity and water supply are very well. But others, like health care or waste management are not so well. Health care depends more on political decisions made by national authorities, so it is not expected to change a lot in the next years. In waste management we can expect some improvement, but it depends a lot on educational campaigns to get the best results of government decisions. Recycling and sewage are the most important issues for the future.
