Reference: Ulkanagari, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India The picture chosen is of a residential building being developed for upper middle class. It also has provision for few commercial establishments. India being a huge country with vast sources of natural resources and good advancement in manufacturing front, all material that is used for construction within the country originates in the country. Raw materials and finished products as required for undertaking construction may be sourced from different states, but with respect to the State of Maharashtra, majority of the material is sourced within the state and even converted to the finished formed as required for undertaking construction within the state. With respect to the basic building construction activity, none of the material that is used in undertaking construction for this building is manufactured locally. Since the City of Aurangabad has no industry for manufacturing of raw materials within itself / even in the hinterland, all material has to be imported from different parts of the state, even other states at times – especially electronics. With the initiatives under Ministry of renewable Energy and Smart Cities on undertaking Solar implementations on residential buildings, it is expected that the components required for undertaking these implementations will be imported from other states as Maharashtra does not have any solar equipment manufacturing units, but they will defiantly not be imported from another country as India already has a decent manufacturing base of Solar equipment. This applies to almost all construction that is undertaken in country. But what can be construed as an impact of globalization on construction is the method (technology) being used for undertaking the construction. Relatively recently – approx. 5 / 6 years ago – a major builder introduced a new technique by which the use of red mud bricks was eliminated and construction duration was drastically reduced. There were no red mud bricks that were used in construction of this building – even though the building image shows it as almost finished, I have been witness of construction of its last few stories. Fly ash brickets along with major use of concrete was made to build the building in the picture. Globalization of construction in India in my will only be through import of such techniques as the country has raw material and ancillary technology for building required machinery in abundance. * I have been posted to Aurangabad City for undertaken technology-led transformation of the City to make it Smart and Safe Aurangabad City. All the additional information and perspective is a result of the detailed study and survey of this city. I have tried being to the point and very focussed and mention every detail required – but in case, something is missing, it is on account of me having missed on putting in some back-ground information – in such a case, I would be more than happy to explain the point ** The language may not be apt for delivering an assignment. But I have tried my best to stick to the assignment style of writing as I am zoned through the day working on multiple deliverables of differing nature and those with an extreme formal style of writing
