2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? The summer now has more hotter days than ever. We now see 103 F days several times during the week! Boise is in a valley and the city has been expanding quickly. Both of these contribute to UHI. Here is a photo in the downtown City Center. There is a water fountain children play in to keep cool but as you can see the Tree's are sparse and create little shade. The other photo is at the first damn on the Boise River and hour and half out of town. You can see there was a fire that has killed trees in the back ground. 3. Which are the measures you would propose? I would suggest setting up more monitors so we could have a better read on the UHI in the City. I would improve comfort for pedestrians and cyclist by planting more trees and access to water stations. I think more people would walk and avoid using their car if it was more comfortable, which would help reduce the heat and pollution coming form cars. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Water is a big deal in Idaho since we are a agriculture state. I think with UHI rising we will see more policy in taking water from Urban areas to insure the farms have enough. We could see a drought soon. Do you know of policies in your community that are planned to reduce the UHI effect? I do not.
