Exercise 3 future cities The following order of the most livable cities are according to my observations and experiences... 1.vienna 2.auckland 3.bhopal 4.singapore 5.Ahemdabad The five major characteristics based on the context of my observations and experiences are as follows- Infrastructure and services and sustainable architecture Diverse population would have different needs, requirements and goals. So, a livable city should provide infrastructure for the same. All the services and amenities should be ready accessible for a comfortable living. Diverse economy and job opportunities A diverse economy would ensure a balanced and self-sufficient economic system of the city. Providing diverse job opportunities thus catering a larger range of people. Environment protection and nature connect. Since we exploit nature for our resources, we should give back to earth this can be done by protecting the biodiversity of fhe place. Also nature connect can be beneficial for people seeking for calm and peace thus increasing livability. The cultural harmony and social justice. especially in the cities with people of diverse religion and culture it is really crucial to provide equal opportunity and freedom to practice their faith. Also nurture different culture in harmony. Safety, law and order To ensure safety and peace. A safe neighborhood provides opportunities for people of all genders and ages to explore and be independent. Proper precautions should be taken for natural calamities and crises to ensure the safety and well being of the citizens. ANALYSIS OF CHANDRAPUR CITY,INDIA Chandrapur Maharashtra, India It is an industrial city in Maharashtra state of india with the largest industrial estate of the state. City has a diverse population due the employment opportunities the industries provide, thus it accommodates people with different religion and preferences. And it's remarkable to see how the different culture and religion practices coexist in harmony. The open cast mines in the area are damaging the nature. The regulations by the local government on deforestation are not sufficient. Heavy pollution and rising temp. are the major concerns.the city has some major environment issues. Since the industries are the major employers the diversity of jobs is less. This also results in unbalanced economy. Also people have to migrate to other cities in search of different jobs. Lack of sufficient infrastructure results in migration for quality higher education and healthcare. The safety of women and children have been a priority of the local administration. This has given women freedom and helped them to be independent. Major law reforms need to be enforced to protect the environment of the city. And a more sustainable power generation resource need to be implied to reduce the heavy pollution by the thermal power station. The climatic condition are certainly not ideal for human habitation but the use of foreign building techniques and architectural design has made the matter worse. People need to respect the context and design the building which are responsive to the climate and sensitive to the context. This will ensure sustainable growth. A diverse economy needs to be created for varied job opportunities.
