a. Provisioning services: Around the city of Stuttgart, there are many forests that provide the raw material wood. So I think, that’s the dominant resource in this category of ecosystem services. The drinking water comes from farer away, manly from the Lake Constance. b. Regulating services: Again, the trees around Stuttgart are worth mentioning concerning local climate and air quality as well as Carbon sequestration and storage. In the very city centre, there is a park with some trees, but generally, the city is not very green in my opinion. c. Habitat or Supporting services: Although the city centre isn’t very green, there is shelter for animals, especially birds and squirrels. In the middle of house blocks e. g., there are often gardens with some trees and soil. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to shoot a photo of a squirrel yet. I can observe them from my balcony during breakfast. Birds often live on the roofs. d. Cultural services: In particular the forest around Stuttgart provides people with recreational quality for mental and physical health, including small lakes. People can go walking, running, playing there, and make barbecues. Although Stuttgart is not known for being very touristic, it is quite interesting for visitors due to its special topographic conditions and many stairs.
