1) Dominant fossil fuels Oil, gas an coal 2) Main use Transport 3) Suggested policy Inside the city, only collective, autonomous, electric vehicles should be allowed and private cars should be banned. These vehicles could be operated by different companies such as for example Google or Tesla Motors. The number of cars (and also garages and parking lots) would drastically decrease, since cars would constantly be in use thanks to sophisticated algorithms that can plan and combine the transport of different people that specify their travel needs for example using a smartphone app. Thereby, energy waste due to excessive car production would be reduced and sustainable energy sources could be used to power the electric vehicles. Also, since less vehicles would clutter the streets and the autonomous vehicles are safer than human drivers, people would find it much more pleasant to walk or take the bike. Also, since humans would no longer drive cars, streets and signs could be rethought to have a smaller footprint and blend in better with nature. The demand for photovoltaics could be increased by tapping into the potential of internet platforms and social media; e.g. residents of a district could conveniently make financial contributions to common photovoltaics' projects (similar to websites like "kickstarter") meant to power their home. Once a project fully financed, the company would take care of the installation and the residents would then receive an amount of energy proportional to their financial contributions. The city could also open advertising areas that can be used by companies paying for the installation of renewable energy sources.
