1. I live in Lagos, Nigeria and there are no existing Citizen Design Science projects in urban design and planning in my country, at least not that I'm aware of. Planning decisions are usually made by the government and professionals in the industry. 2. *For starters, I would carry out surveys to find out the predominant reasons for this problem. *I would also create catchy ads, perhaps posters and radio transmissions, that would pique the interests of the citizens. *Case studies will be carried out and the information shared with the public, to garner their interest and give them a better understanding. * Outlining of the ideas that have been previously gathered in order to get their opinion. * Apart from strategic placing of suggestion boxes, I would organize periodic meetings for the discussion of these ideas. * I would ensure that there are approachable and available"officers", should there be need for one on one discussions. * Most importantly, I would ensure that the concerns and ideas of the citizens are genuinely considered and applied in the decision making process. 3. **Guidelines** * Ensuring that the word gets around. * Encouraging participation. * Ensuring inclusion of every class in the neighborhood, to widen perspective and prevent bias. * Offering guidance and support. * Ensuring violence and offensive behaviour are frowned at and eliminated. * Conflict resolution and maintaining of peace. * Keeping an open mind and making sure the gathered information is put to as much use as possible. * Making sure corresponding results are produced in order to encourage future participation.
