The top five livability criteria from most to least importantant that I look at is Housing, Transportation, Job Opportunities, Recreation Opportunities, and the Overall Economy. I currently live in Cumberland, Maryland. I am attracted to the area by the Low Cost of Living, Education Opportunities, the Scenic Views, the Political Stability of the State Government, and the Climate. Based on the livability criteria I had selected, Cumberland scores a 55 out of 100. With each criteria factor alloted 20 points, I would rank the Housing situation as 20/20, Transportation 5/20, Job Opportunities 10/20, Recreation Opportunities 10/20, and the Overall Economy 10/20. If I were the Mayor of Cumberland, my efforts would be focused on improving public transit, protecting public housing, investing in parks and recreation, and requiring major corporations to pay fairer wages to their workers. In addition, efforts must be made to accomodate small businesses, and to work with educators to fulfill employment demand. If I was to leave Cumberland there are three cities I would consider going to: Baltimore, MD; Frederick, MD; and Washington, DC. In Baltimore, there is a lively culture, educational opportunities, and potential jobs. In Frederick, there is a lot of attractive recreation and scenic views, a high level of safety, and a strong community. In Washington, there is a relatively superior transportation system, educational opportunities, and potential jobs.
