Rideau Canal - Ottawa In this image you can find the Ottawa Rideau canal, its parallel multi-use pathway (pedestrians and cyclists) and the bridge which connects this multi-use pathway to the other side of the canal and to the University of Ottawa. The canal serves as a buffer area that helps control floods during raining seasons. During winter, it freezes and becomes one of the largest skateways in the world. During this time of year, some people commute to work by skating and some cafés install temporary branches along its way, therefore becoming a transportation facility, as well as a recreation and public space. During summer, restaurants install patios in the grass area and families and citizens exercise along the multi-use pathway or commute through this corridor. An led lighting system lights the corridor during the night. Therefore, in this corridor you can find water, transportation, electricity and public space infrastructure that serves various needs of diverse sets of citizens.
