LISTING: 1. Melbourne: Stability, Healthcare, Culture and Environment, Education and Infrastructure. 2. New York: In terms of Stability, Healthcare, Culture and Environment, and Education, New York is a livable city. However, the infrastructure in terms of transportation needs to be made more efficient. 3. Muscat: Muscat's approach Stability, Healthcare, Culture and Environment, Education and Infrastructure is average and evenly distributed in places where they are available. However most parts of the city do not have access to theses features. 4. Mumbai: Mumbai is a national cultural icon. However it lacks in stability, healthcare, infrastructure, and education. Although these features are present in abundance in some parts of the city, they lack completely in most parts. 5. Chennai: Chennai is the cultural hub of South India. However, it lacks in terms of stability, adequate infrastructure, education and healthcare. PROPOSAL: Although a cultural icon, Chennai is still far behind as a livable city. It's location in the tropics makes it a hot and noisy environment to live in. Also adding to this factor -as seen in the picture- is the encroachment of natural water bodies by high raise buildings. All these features coupled with the imbalance in distribution of resources available between the different economic and social sectors act as setbacks to the city's development in terms of functionality and livability. Therefore, in order to make Chennai a more livable city, it is important for an inclusive approach to finding solutions to conserve the environment, while catering to infrastructure, education, healthcare, and stability.
