Provisioning services of Tomsk (ecosystem services that describe the material or energy outputs from ecosystems): • Forests, taiga, fields, rivers and lakes; • Food (fish, local vegetables, berries, nuts, mushrooms); • Fresh water sources; • Fresh air; • Gardening, hunting and fishing, local food consumption; • Large number of healthy and sustainable food initiatives; • Wood, oil, gas, coal, crushed stone, peat, clay, sand. b. Regulating services (services that ecosystems provide by acting as regulators) There are a lot of green spaces, rivers and lakes in Tomsk. There are endless forests, fields and taiga around the city. The Siberian taiga is the lungs of Eurasia. Regulating services of plants: cooling the city; reducing the risk of flooding; cleaning the air. c. Habitat or Supporting services In our forests, rivers and lakes there is a great variety of plants (1000 species) and animals (2000 species). We have many reservations. Children and adults know that nature needs to be protected. d. Cultural services There are a lot of parks, gardens, park areas and recreation areas in Tomsk. They give recreation, mental and physical health.
