The first flow is water. Thessaloniki mostly gets its potable water from Aliakmonas river. Also large quantities arrive in the city trough rain. Rain water ends up direcly in the sea (Thermaikos gulf) due to the downhill landscape of the city while water from household usage ends up in Thermaikos after passing through the wastewater treatment plant. As as second example of flow I choose students. Thessaloniki has two large Universities with more than 90.000 students. Students come from the while country and from outside Greece. There is a very characteristic flow of students before and after holidays (Christmas, summer etc). Between those breaks students could be charcterized as stock. As a stock I choose its monuments which stand in the city center since ancient-byzantine time and despite the changes they have suffered through the years and differeces in usage they stay always at the same place and shape. Monuments will remain the same while student flow could dramatically change. E-learning technology imporves everyday and it could lead to a new era where studying takes place mostly in distance. I
