The Tyneside flats are a building typology within Newcastle. They have a kitchen and a the bathroom at the back of the dwelling. Some of these were built before electricity was extensively used and so the back alleys were used to deliver coal for fires. Electrical systems have been retrofitted with wires bringing energy to the residences where one carts brought coal.
