This photo was taken from a water taxi approaching the Johnson St. Bridge in Victoria, B.C. The new bridge is the largest infrastructure project the City has ever taken on and is being constructed adjacent to the old bridge, with all of the superstructure being fabricated in China. This is a prime example of Globalization in construction. One of the pitfalls, in this particular project, is that the supervision and quality control of the project has been limited. There have been many large fabrication errors which have contributed to substantial delays and budget increases on this project. Would local fabrication have aid in this process? Is this disconnect emergent from Globalization?
