In the neighboring town of Frostburg, Maryland, wind energy infrastructure has been installed and continues to be implemented in the area. The electricity usage of the region has historically been dependent on coal; the use of coal continues to this day. The energy infrastructure is becoming diversified, providing cleaner and cheaper energy. However, the active wind turbines have since changed part of the mountainous landscape, creating political tension among those who view the wind turbines as a disturbance or an eye sore.
