In my area of Cumberland, Maryland, the most important stocks are the landscape, our historical sites, and the railroad. Important flows are the wildlife, people (tourism), and exported coal. These stocks and flows are expected to change in the future. The landscape will likely not change much, but if improvements are made to protect our forests, the wildlife should flourish. This is an attraction to many people, but it also will promote a more sustainable food system, as many people in this area hunt for food. As time progresses, our historical sites obviously get older which increases the historical value of the area. This will encourage more tourism, which means the flow of people will increase. No significant changes are to be expected with the railroad, however, as divestments are made from fossil fuels, more investment will be put into renewable technologies. With having less coal cars on the rails, the possibility emerges for more passenger trains and other commercial train cars to be employed, thus once again increasing the flow of people. By having more people coming into the area due to these changes, more commerce and wealth can be brought to Cumberland and by extension to the Appalachian region.
