The Sankey Diagram - creating policy to reduce CO2 emissions In this exercise, we would like to ask you what you would do to reduce the CO2 emissions in your country. Please let us know: What are the dominant fossil fuels used in your country? Use www.iea.org/sankey to discover it (Hint: e aware of the flow of the energy in the Sankey diagram. Sometimes a part of the production of energy goes to the export of a country. Exported energy won't be consumed by your country itself). The dominant fossil fuels used in the US are from oil usage and production. Our nuclear production is at the bottom of the list, right next to hydro production. Where are the dominant fossil fuels mainly used for in your country? (e.g. transport, industry, non-energy use etc.) The primary usage of the fuels is for industry. Second to that is transportation. It is your task to create a new policy in order to improve the environmental friendly and sustainable sources and consumption of energy of your country. How would you do that? Think of how you can improve the sources and the consumption of energy. In this exercise, you are allowed to write how you would do this, but we strongly encourage you to provide your ideas with self-taken photographs (see Notes) an/or self-made sketches. I would start by changing some of the ratios in which we acquire energy. Obviously, clean and renewable sources are idea. We have a lot of plains that could sustain wind turbines. We have a lot of surrounding oceans that could take advantage of some heat exchanger if it were developed. Nuclear power is also a much better choice than oil and coal production, even with it’s added safety concerns. This is where I would begin. Then, I would enforce stricter regulation on energy usage. Companies must be aware of how much energy they use and waste. The would have to complete their own analysis of usage and then have an audit by a professional engineer to confirm their results. They would be more than fined for being out of spec, as I would push to make them not be allowed to operate without changing their methods.
