Most livable Cities: Ljubljana, Slovenia Vancouver BC, Canada Portland, Oregon Boise, Idaho Berlin, Germany Traits of a livable city: Access to clean water and air. Connectivity, easy to move around. Sources for healthy food. Infrastructure. Safety for citizens and environment. The city I live in is Boise, Idaho. Our Mayor and City Council has a goal to make Boise the most livable city in the United States. It is a great start for a city if the leaders are committed to such a goal. Boise has been working on making bicycling, walkability and buses more safe and accessible for everyone to use. One common thing all the Cities I have listed is their focus on bicycle lanes. My only concern for our City is the rising cost of housing in and near the downtown area. We have a problem with suburban sprawl which takes up farm land and encourages people to drive more. The photo I am including is of the "Foothills" looking back at the Cities downtown. Our close access to nature helps people live more enjoyable, calmer lives.
