This photograph shows a terrestrial electricity high voltage transmission line running through a residential apartment complex in Bengaluru. Not a great sign but definitely shows the interdependence of the different systems which impact our life. The electricity line transmitting energy over the breadth of the state also provides energy to the city. The question would be is it sensible to run these lines underground in these densely populated dwelling places. From an economic view point it make not be a viable decision but considering the citizen safety aspects, it makes a case for taking these high voltage terrestrial transmission lines underground. However with increasing vertical and horizontal expansion of cities including territorial areas I think these sort of contradictions are bound to happen. It makes an interesting case for research to focus on how futuristic cities can take care of this.
