This module of Future Cities course is devoted to the topic of building construction. In detail, it tells more about the effects of globalization on a building construction. The picture above shows Finnish Houses in Warsaw, Poland. Those wooden bungalows, located in the city center, were built in 1945 as temporary housing for the architects and engineers involved in the process of city’s rebuilding. Houses came prefabricated from Finland and were part of Finnish post-war reparations to the USSR. However, it is not an example of the current construction it shows that the usage of non-local materials is not a new issue. In the future, we should seek to extend a usage of local materials in a building construction. This can lead to a creation more resilient and sustainable cities.
