This photo was taken on a field trip to Kalmar with my current school "Linnéuniveristy". The construction site is planned for three buildings that will be a school, office and houseing. I cannot explain exactly where the material or other things comes from from the building process but I know that alot is imported because of low prices and lack of material/workforce in the country. Alot of workers at construction sites are either consults from other countries with the competence needed for special construction methods or people hired to build. I would say that the construction sites exists of half national workers and half international. This indicates that the economy used is both international and national. Why they do this is what i would believe to be a cheaper choise, and that in some cases people with certain competense is hard to find so they find them abroad. Alot of companies exists in other countries than the construction is taken place. The materials used in these kind of projects comes from all over the world, depending on what the prices are and what kind of environemtal impact they have. Materials used in this construction as we can see in the picture is reinforced concrete, wood, steel, glass etc. One material or maybe all of them could come from one single country, althought in this case i would guess that its widely spread to lower prices of construction and transport. Sweden is big on cement, steel and wood so maybe they would use these national materials because of environmental aspects (transport, production etc.) while glass for example often is imported to the country. There are some restrictions though on how long transportations will be and some places are to far away for transportation of materials so you would chose the more expensive choise so we can take care of our nature. In the future i would guess that the environmental laws will be more strict, and alot more of them. This will indicate in higher prices in some aspect will other aspects will lower prices because of the environemnt is safe. Trying to build as sustainable and cheap as possible is something swedish builders believe in, althought its easy to take the cheaper product. These laws would restrain building companies and they would have to rethink the way they build, where they buy their material and services etc which is good. Therefore i believe they more environmental knowledge will force us to research better options and we will still be able to build for low prices.
