A Citizen Design Science project I think a major problem in our cities today is the amount of garbage generated by all of us. And I think that a Citizen Design Science project could both create new ideas on how to deal with it – as reuse, composte, art, building materials etc. and it could also create more awareness on sorting garbage and for people to take more responsibility and create their own solutions. The data collected in the project could be how much garbage/waste each person creates, what type of person creates what kind of waste etc. making it more clear how to reach people to make them recycle more of their waste. The project should also have a citizen database of how to recycle different things, or how to fix things that people would throw out otherwise. First I would create create a base for people to share data. It could be an app where people could registre what waste they have and how much and how often they take out the trash. This could also help the municipality in when to collect garbage around the city, coming when it is necsesary instead of on regular days. Second I would make sure to have collected a wide range of recycling projects, small or large to start people getting ideas. It might be difficult for people to make up new projects from scratch, but being able to browse through different already existing projects could spark new ideas, and also show people how easy it is to share ideas. Third I would create awareness about the project, and be sure to do an ongoing personal campaign, to keep the project current. Small recycling events sround the city, events where people can get help to fix broken items or other projects involving people. Hopefully the project could result in less waste, more recycling, more green space in our courtyards instead of space for containers, and all in all a cleaner city.
