Based on this, your task for this week is to describe your own idea for a Citizen Design Science project! Citizen Design Science is a fascinating subject because there is so much potential in crowd sourcing data from a massive number of sources. the challenge of citizen design science is maintaining data integrity and ensuring that the data that is gathered is accurate and reliable. for these reasons i would propose a citizen design science project which is not primarily based on people inputting opinions or attempting to gather data for research, i would propose a project which is based on tracking movement in order to understand how people use and interact with the built environment. rather than filling out surveys or gathering data, citizens would produce the required data through their everyday activities, which could be tracked through an app that they download onto their smartphone, or through carrying another device, and the app can be deleted or the device returned once the project is finished. this data could be used to gain an understanding on how people travel, move, or otherwise interact with the city that they live in. in addition to tracking movement, the device or app could periodically ask questions of the citizen such as why they are where they are, what their surrounding are like, how they feel, or other questions which relate to their emotional response to their surroundings. users could also be prompted to take photographs of their surroundings. this data could be used to understand how far people travel on a daily basis, where they go, why they go there, which parts of a city are particularly appealing to people at certain times and why. this data could be used to explore ways to change or improve various areas, and how this might be done in an inclusive manner.
