From home to work I have mapped out 4 different ways of going from my home to my work: walk, bike, car and public transport. By walking I would be able to cross the harbour in a space only for pedestrians and bikes, the trip would take 35 minutes. By biking I would take the same route as walking, but it will only take 11 minutes. By car it would take about 11 minutes, but there should be added a few minutes for walking in each end of the trip, as there aren't nescesarily any parking spaces close to my house or to my work. I would estimate at least 20 minutes total. By public transport there are a few routes, but I have chosen the one with no bus changes. So I would need to walk to the central train station, which is about 12 minutes away, then get on a bus for 4 minutes, and walk again for about 7 minutes, a total of 23 minutes. (not including waiting for the bus) I usually bike to work (and to all other places). It is by far the fastest way and the greenest. I would drive across the harbour and ride by a long green park along the waterfront. This route is less trafficated by cars, it is however a very popular route for cyclist and can be very densely trafficated with people on bikes. Taking the route away from to much traffic allows me to relax on the journey and to start thinking about the projects of the day. I have tried taking a car a few times, but getting stuck in traffic, needing to find a parking space etc. is for me not a very good start to the day.
