1. The dominant fossil fuels in UK are – in order of dominance – oil, gas and coal. 2. According to the Sankey diagram, the fossil fuels are used for transport, “other” (meaning housing, commerce and public services & non-energy use industry) and industry. 3. I firmly believe that reducing consumption of fossil fuels is the best way of starting to move towards a more environmentally friendly approach when it comes to energy consumption. UK has a huge potential for generating wind power, which can be used for residential, commercial and public areas and services. Gas and oil would be significantly reduced if this happened. Energy produced like this can also be stored for further use. Regarding the transportation sector, powering vehicles on the road is the main category for which the fossil fuels are used. Apart from the easier to apply policies such as congestion charges & higher parking fees, designing more welcoming spaces for pedestrians & cyclists could be an effective policy. Using stored wind energy for powering electric cars is another option. Solar is a viable option as well (even in northern Scotland).
