Hello everybody, I am Yadunath Ravikumar and I am from Singapore. Here I would like to brief you on the few citizen design projects from Singapore. The bodies I know of successfully conducting citizen are the National Parks Board(NPARKS) and The Urban Redevelopment authority(URA). Rest of the government agencies may be involved in few public participatory projects but it’s not worth the mention. NPARKS involves in a variety of citizen science initiatives available to the public and school groups. The oeuvre of programs can vary from butterfly garden watches, bird watching sessions, sea grass monitoring and even marine eco-toxicity monitoring surveys. Data derived from these projects informs decision makers about biodiversity and helps to formulate conservation strategies. Help from citizen scientists enables the collection of large amounts of data, and in return, they get to learn more about our biodiversity. URA starts their concept plan in the office based on life style surveys and other modes of data collection prepared by the specialists. This plan is then exhibited online for reviews and comments from the public. At the same time a government appointed focus group will also review these plans through closed door discussions. Later the comments and reviews from both public and the focus group is infused to prepare the draft master plans. This draft plans is exhibited for public comments and incorporated relevant feedback to fine-tune the plans.
