Uploaded on 2017-06-04 by Joanna Fabiszewska
Making the invisible visible is the main theme of this segment. The city image provides us with a ton of information which can be used in a future for a decision-making process to create sustainable urban environments. In this exercise, I would like to present the picture taken in the city of Erfurt in Germany. What visible information gives us this image? We can see historical buildings and the tower, people crossing tram rails and carrying shopping bags, benches located under the trees. Pedestrian pavement and tram rails are at the same level, there are no boundaries. This visible information provides us with the invisible information. The tower can signify the landmark and the importance of this space which can be located in the central and historical neighborhood. Moreover, the lack of boundaries between pedestrian pavement and tram rails means that this space is easily accessible by different groups of people. In addition, small architecture and trees can bring more people to space, thus making it more livable.
