Impact of infrastructure: The above picture is of a clogged drain of the Madipakkam Lake in Chennai that is connected to the extensive drainage network of the city. In 2015, the inefficient condition of the the drainage network, and the shrinking number and sizes of lakes, aggravated the effects of the heavy rains and led to a major flood costing several lives and livelihoods.
