I live in the Netherlands close to the biggest national park, de Veluwe. This national park is constituted with several different ecosystems and landscapes, including conifer woods, deciduous woods, waterlands, moorlands, grasslands and mixed woods. It is in some areas heavily wooded. I chose this to ilustrate how trees are the most important ecosystem services givers in the planet. Providers; trees provide us with clean air, fruits and food, shadow, wood for energy and housing, habitats and shelters for biodiversity. Regulators; trees regulate the quality of the soil and the water; shelter from floods, storms and other natural phenomena and disasters Culture; what would a city be without a park for children to play, families to promenade and picknic under its shade, to climb and photograph. Health and climate; trees are one of the planets most important carbon sinks; deforestation is the second major worlwide cause for global warming, the first being the burning pf fossil fuels. Therefore, trees must be protected and replanted for our own benefit and survival. They also provide natural remedies and cosmetics.
