In the area which I live, there are several ecosystem services: PROVISIONING SERVICE - There is a local fresh water supply that runs through the city by way of the Bow River. This river is fed by a glacier and runs from the Rocky Mountains to the west and is responsible for supplying fresh water to multiple municipalities. REGULATING SERVICE - Although there are not many trees native to my area (I live on the frontier of the Canadian prairies and Rocky Mountains), many species have been introduced to create parks and a vegetated urban aesthetic. These trees provide a natural air filtration system as well as serve to reduce the urban heat island in the city. HABITAT OR SUPPORTING SERVICES - There is a large Provincial park that has been integrated into the city of Calgary and provides habitat for many of the fauna native to the area such as bears, cougars, deer, moose, and various birds. CULTURAL SERVICES - One of the biggest draws for tourism in my area are the Rocky Mountains. People come from all over the world to hike, camp, and experience nature in as undomesticated a way as possible. (see attached photo) *for some reason, I am only able to upload one photo
