The USA is a country where, in comparison to Europe, you can tell that much space is used for construction and infrastructure. So are most of the highways prepared with double lanes in every direction. Also most of the buildings in the smaller cities are one or seldom two story buildings. That is why a lot more infrastructure is used, the places are even within the city further away than in comparable European cities. So as well as the picture shows the aircons for the building are spreader on the backside of the building, instead having one for the complete building, which could be regulated by every unit in the house, each unit has one. There must be the infrastructure for all of them and the place to store them...
