I am Yadunath Ravikumar and I am from Singapore. You can find all four ecosystem services in the city state of Singapore. Provisioning Services: Fish farms, poultry farms, community gardens and vegetable farms are few of the provisioning services found in Singapore. My example is a community farm at Punggol Periwinkle Residents committee (RC) where residents cultivate and sell their produce at local markets. Excess produce is also shared amongst participants during periods when sales cannot be arranged by RC. (Refer to figure 1 in attachment.) Regulating Services: There are few examples of regulatory services in Singapore. Park networks providing greenery around the city helps in controlling the air pollution and promote water seepage into ground enriching the water table. Ponds and freshwater swales in these parkss also act as fresh water catchment reservoirs. Freshwater canals prevent floods and channel the surface runoffs from drains to reservoirs. Various policy by National Environment Agency and Ministry of Health Singapore play a very important part in keeping diseases under control by promoting various measures of vector control around the Island. (Refer to figure 2 in attachment) Habitat or Supporting services: Various facilities like the Singapore Zoo, Botanic Gardens, Jurong Bird park along with central catchment area play important role in preserving the local flora and fauna. Certain community gardens also do the same throughout Singapore at a smaller scale. In figure 3 you can see a butterfly garden at Pei Hwa secondary school in Sengkang. The kids are made aware of the local species of insects and they play active part in conservation of the species. The spirit of conservation is thus carried into the future generations through education at schools. Cultural services: Institutions in Singapore like Singapore Zoo, Botanic Gardens and Jurong Bird park are also major tourist attractions. Local park connector networks are also major places of recreation for the locals. Tai Chi sessions, exercise classes and family picnics are all part and parcel of these green network around Singapore. Local community gardens also play an important role in promoting local culture. They are often venues of community gathering, learning classes and fostering bonding amongst the multi ethnic communities in Singapore.
