(in the image from left to right: Food, Energy, Capital, Building Materials) Some of the most important Stocks and Flows in Riyadh is, 1- Water. 2- Food. 3- Energy. 4- Capital. 5- Building materials: Glass & Aluminum Cladding. 1- Water: Saudi Arabia in general is very poor with water so the tend to treat the sea water and transfer it to all cities in the country, producing such huge quantities of water each day needs lots of energy and infrastructures, since Saudi Arabia is mostly a desert country gathering rain water or searching for underwater will not cover the country's need, so investing in more advanced technologies for treating sea water and investing in gray water and black water treatment plants may lead to reduce needed energy and investment on the long terms using conventional methods of treating sea water. 2- Food: not everything grow in Saudi Arabia specially fruits and vegetables due to extreme need of water in a desert country, so Saudi Arabia relies on importing some types or growing small quantities for others, if methods are developed to plant essential food sources this will reduce traffic cost high prices and may help changing the climate a bit. 3- Energy: very high demand on energy that is being produced using petroleum fuel (i.e. diesel, natural gas...etc), even though it is produced locally since SA is rich with oil but it produces high amounts of CO and CO2 also exhausts the countries resources, switching to oil alternative will reduce pollution and will direct the income from selling oil to other benefits in developing cities. 4- Capital: as seen in the picture, the financial district is nearly finished but in the same time not finished, since the recession in world economy happened most mega projects in Riyadh are on hold until further notice thus forcing companies to release a lot of their employees and cause a flow of large amount of people back to their countries and slowing the development of the city on other fields as well. 5- Glass & Aluminum: they became a major factor in most office and commercial buildings in SA but they get imported from outside and prices are highly controlled not only by the global market, but also by local certified vendors, if both materials or at least one of them are being produced locally this will reduce drastically prices of construction and will open the minds of people to use it more in building and develop advanced methods to take advantage of them while taking into consideration SA climate to reduce incoming heat and sand, thus making more homes and buildings that make use of natural lighting.
