This photo was taken on a one way street in the Allentown neighborhood of Buffalo, NY. The street almost functions as a back alley with unattractive buildings taking up much of the parcels and lots of electric poles. Since its a one way street, it receives very little vehicular traffic and can therefore afford to be a little "ugly". What you can't see is that one street forward (which faces west) is a very pretty, very high traffic street called Delaware Ave. Having the infrastructure tucked away in this secondary street allows for the main thoroughfare to function as a destination without the negative appearances of the electricity running through it. However, if the electric towers were placed underground as one of the lectures explored as an option, this street could be improved and made into an asset, increasing the economic vitality and cultural identity of the neighborhood.
