FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2017-05-10 by Katharina Bormann
On this photo you can see a church surrounded by a small garden. You can also see that the building is well-lit up by the sun. What is not visible to the viewer, is the energy that comes from the sun and the energy that is spent inside the building, e.g. by heating, lighting or people's devices. It is possible to take advantage of this energy by solar panels in order to gain electric energy. You can see some panels on the roof. This is an environmentally friendly way of energy generation reducing CO2 emissions. In order to present the results of this energy extraction, there is a tablet on the right side showing the current and overall solar energy consumption. This makes the information visible to every pedestrian passing the church and it might make people think about energy usage or even convince them to invest in solar energy in cities. This information can be used to increase the amount of clean energy and reduce pollution caused by fossil fuels. Moreover this clean energy could be used for electric vehicles like bikes and cars and reduce exaust fumes in the city. Electric cars even reduce noise pollution in the cities. The aim is to have a clean sustainable city surrounded by clean suburban areas.
