1) Copenhague: perfect for biking and cultural offers, but high cost of living and dark in winter 2) Barcelona: good climate, good public transport, great cultural offers, quite big 3) Bozen: perfect climate, great location, beautiful 4) Haarlem: perfect for biking, great location (close to Amsterdam), a bit small 5) New York: great cultural offers, great public transport system, too big, too expensive Also on my list: Freiburg im Breisgau, York, Leipzig, Annecy, Geneva, Avignon, Münster (I haven't been much outside of Europe, only once in New York and now in Buenos Aires...) My criteria: easy and healthy reachability of cultural and educational services: preferably by bike, public transport wide range of cultural and educational opportunities decent climate with enough light and warmth green areas to relax and do exercises safety due to small gap btw. rich and poor inhabitants My hometown Bielefeld is not far from entering my top 15 list: we have a tram and many buses although it's just a 350.000 inhabitants city, there is plenty of green areas including a big forest and many parks, there is a big university connected to the tram network and it's considered one of the safest German cities. But were lacking a bit of cultural activities (although we have a big art hall, a city theatre, program cinemas, some jazz clubs and several city celebrations around the year), because we don't practise many traditions and the city is hardly not touristy. Our city is considered to be "the city that doesn't exist" although it's Germany's 18th largest city. This shows how little attractive it is for people coming as tourists or for people from other places who want to move and settle down in our city. So we have to little cultural exchange to create an inspiring and attractive cultural live in our city.
