This photo shows the infrastructure for a working recycling system in Montevideo, Uruguay. Waste seperation is crucial for implementing a reycling system and dealing with the accumulation of used material in densly populated areas. Providing bins which allow seperation is the first step to recycling. Coming from Germany, I am really used to seperating waste at home and in the city and I missed it a lot living in Buenos Aires (especially because I knew that there is not another organised system for recycling), so it stroke me immediately seeing the bins in the Capital of Uruguay, one of the bordering countries of Argentina and not very far from Buenos Aires. Bins which allow waste seperation does not immediately mean a functioning recycling system, because there are many more important factors, such as people's habit to seperate, waste collection, recycling machines, money to maintain the system. But at least it is a hopeful start...
