FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2017-05-04 by Nina
1. Visible information: amount of people walking by foot, taking the boat, amount of cars. amount of offices in each building, amount of airplanes flying over the city. Quantity of materials used to construct the buildings and bridges. the amount of rainwater passing through the drainage. 2. Invisible information: By summing up all the vehicles passing by and calculate the amount of fossil fuel they would use all together by travelling 'through' this photo, we could calculate how much air pollution is caused by travelling on this spot on a certain moment. By calculating the amount of concrete that was used in all the buildings, we could estimate the amount of fossil energy used to construct these buildings. 3. By following the amount of air pollution, we could test the effect of more people travelling by public transport and bicycles instead of travelling by car. If this is quantified, we have the possibility to charge people for the amount of air pollution they produce. That makes it easier to convince people to commute fossil free, and keep the air fresh.
