Think and comment on the following example: Habitats of a certain neighborhood don’t feel safe when they walk in their neighborhood in the evening and during the night. You are working for the local government and want to solve this problem through improvement of the public spaces. How would you start-up a Citizen Design Science project? * The first step I would take is to do a survey among the habitats as to what makes them feel unsafe during these times and also do a physical survey of the neighborhoods themselves at these times to see who is around at these times and their general habits to see how they might be viewed as creating the sense of unease. Secondly I would look at the linkage between public spaces and people's homes to assess walkability of the public spaces, so that the spaces can be improved to make them more sociable spaces. Thirdly, I would investigate the lighting of these spaces, are there street lights available. If not, investigate the feasibility of putting them in. If yes, look into their effectiveness. Fourthly, look into the crime statistics in the area and possible drivers of those crime statistics. Next, I would engage the habitats on what they think would be the possible solutions to improve both their public spaces and their perception & feelings about their public spaces.
