I think this is a fitting example for out topic. This is a photo of the atrium of one of our local malls here in General Santos City Philippines, The Veranza Mall which is an extension from their old KCC Mall adjacent to this one. As can be seen, it is a modern mall filled with steel and glass and aluminum, from the curtain wall to the corridor railings. though the glass were manufactured in the country, it was from a neighboring city a few hundred kilometers from the site and had to be shipped, the steel and aluminum used for the windows and reinforcement would have been probably imported, same with the ETFE Sunroof topping the roof. they also made use of laminate accent with a wood design which i presume may have been imported from either China or Taiwan. A Friend of mine who worked as a project manager for the construction of this building informed me that all the tiles used here were either imported from Thailand and China. From the Floors, to the ceiling and walls, the mechanical and electrical systems, and almost all aspect of this structure originated from the globalized economy. I do believe that a good estimate of around 85% of the materials used in constructing this Mall was either imported locally and internationally.
