Three stocks and flows that enter, stay in, then leave this city are water, food, and land. In NYC, even though its an island and surrounded by water this water is contaminated by years of pollution and waste that was dumped into the rivers and bay. Therefore water must be imported from the reservoirs by the Adirondacks. up north. This water is an example of a stock and flow. It is imported into the city and based on the amount of people who need it the price of it will be affected. The next example of stock and flow is land because of the density of people on this island land is an issue. Originally it was solved by creating new land and now it is being solved by designing taller and taller structures. Eventually the land will run out and we will have to find new ways of inhabiting the space. The final example of stock and flow is food, because we don't have places to grow crops or animals we need to import the food and it is exported as waste products. I think the city could benefit by using these stocks and flows more efficiently. We should have better ways of reducing waste and buildings that incorporate green spaces for crops, imagine a city designed were each building was self sustained and sustained the people within as well. Growing most of the food and using the earth to filter and collect rain water. Also incorporating the use of animals into the city in some way as livestock would be an interesting city.
