The impact of infrastructures such as transportation, water, health, and energy on urban form and architecture is a fact. With the beginning of the 21st century, buildings and cities are becoming physical and software systems in addition to collections of material and shapes. Water, energy, transportation and health infrastructure are thus crucial dimensions for the design of the future sustainable urban systems and the human habitat." As you can see in the picture attached, the location where the picture was taken is quite remote. It is the countryside of Crete, a beautiful island in Greece. The level of dependency on infrastructure is very small compared to the my home which is located in a city. Once bricks, cement and paint were bought and cables to provide internet and electricity installed; this complex of 10 small houses was self-sufficient. Heating is provided by a wood fired place, water is stored in tanks and natural freshwater can be collected from the river which flows nearby. As it is Greece, sunlight is present most days in the year, hence the solar panels placed on the roof. In addition, food is mostly collected from the garden around the estate, oil and wine produced locally and a small portion of meat and protein derives from the chicken, goats and wild rabbits that surround the area. In addition, fruits in this season are at their pick e.g. oranges which are collected, and stored in various forms (jam, juice...) for other seasons
