The cove of Santa Catalina. Founded in 1579, it is made entirely of ashlar. The volcanic lava of The Misti was used by our ancestors to turn it into blocks of sillar and with them to build houses and temples. This material is strong and withstands high temperatures. Arequipa is known as the white city because most of its buildings are made of white or beige ashlar. This material is still used today for its durability and low price.
