1 - Provisioning services (picture A) Paris has some ecosystems. They play a vital role in the global hydrological cycle, as they regulate the flow and purification of water. Vegetation and forest influence the quantity of water available locally. The “Bois de Boulogne”, a forest in Paris, and the Seine that flows in Paris, give fresh water to the city. 2 - Regulating services (picture B) Paris is a city with many trees or other plants and green spaces. They play an important role in regulating air quality by removing pollutants from the atmosphere. They regulate the global climate by storing and sequestering greenhouse gases. They are very important for the local climate and the air quality. 3 - Habitat or Supporting services (picture C) Paris offers different habitat for species. The “Bois de Boulogne” and the Seine are composed of many areas with different species of trees or birds. There is also the Botanic Garden of Paris, which is a set of four gardens of a total surface of about 70 acres. In these gardens more than 15 000 species and varieties of plants are preserved. 4 - Cultural services (picture D) The “Bois de Boulogne”, a forest between the business district and the centre of Paris, is a great opportunity to do sport or relaxation. It is also important for the cultural and eco-tourism.
